Sony Viao-VPCM126AG- new inspiration!

Friends,

Gone are the days of X and Y generation, today is of the baby boomers! Interesting to notice corporations customising and changing to the needs and demands of today's generation. From the days of mainframe systems to legacy computers, to PC's to laptops to netbooks, the computer market has seen a lot of change. Interesting to notice that gone are the days of market segmentation on price. I am a proud owner of a brand new Sony Viao -- a dream possession for most. Sony being a pioneer in the electronics gadgets industry, has come up with a innovative piece of netbook for the internet generation which I just bought a couple of days before. Interesting design and configuration are some of the salient features of this machine, very compatible and meets all requirements for a daily net user. I am impressed.

In the stiff competitive world of netbooks from ACER and ASUS being the most sort after, must say SONY stands out in its design and finish, slightly premium to be paid to have this mighty pocession.

Overall very gettable piece with money value.

Cheers to SONY

Business & Politics in India

Today morning came with quite some shocking surprises to me with Jet Airways man calling off the retrenchment he had himself announced two days before. Says “I felt for the people who are a part of the Jet family”. Surprisingly none of the journalists present there raised a question to this statement--“Didn’t you have this feeling before you decided, or is it late realization?”

We have envisaged two such scenarios offlate involving different people, places and scenarios --- common being “Business & pure play Politics”. Be it Ratan Tata in Singur or Naresh Goyal now. It’s a different thing that there are lots who want to catch fish without wetting their hands. The same aviation minister who now says that his talk with Mr. Goyal made him change his mind, was acting helpless when asked about the retrenchment soon after it was declared.

A must read book by James Babb (Business & Politics in Japan) traverses through debates between business and political interests in Japan. The book provides very interesting inroads into Japanese economy and industrialization while on the other hand talks about their political stand on pressing issues. Although it’s been like this with most of the developing countries, India seems to be soon surpassing all.

I have often not understood the difference or similarity between Politics and social welfare. Politicians speak so much about social welfare being made to power by the people, of the people and for the people. Paradox being none of the social workers (Baba Amte, Medha Patkar) have ever expressed their interest in politics nor have been part of any political party. Thus, what’s the role of a politician here, to get into public issues and concerns only on advent of elections or involve and make/break agendas.

In midst of an interesting topic chaired on a drinking table someone said,” We have a tendency of visiting a religious shrine or take abode of the supreme power only when in need or despair”. Did Raj Thackeray play the role of Godfather here? Dr. Narayan Murthy’s words hit my mind -- In God we trust - all others bring data.

Business Ethics & Profession

"Karmanyeva adhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana
Ma karmaphalahetur bhurma te sangostvakarmani."
I am sure a lot of astiks would reminise these Bhagvatgita lines often plainly quoted ---- Focus on the karma(deed) and not on the phala(result). However, there was quite some misinterpretation here of the saying in my mind in terms of not concentrating on the result(goal) which most of the time contradicted with our management books on GOALS & RESULTS. Secondly, without expectations (phala) can one do anything perhaps in this world today?!
The right perspective of the Vachana ( saying) was only unfolded when I met up with a learned guru from ISKON [an IIT & IIM!] --He said, Lord Krishna says " One should focus on the deed which definately should be targeted to a result(goal), and its certainly not that one should do actions without expectations". He continued,"An action done without a goal will not yield good results. The action should proceed towards a goal or a cause, and we have complete control over our actions." I had the same question in mind which most of you would have -- then why not seek or have expectations?
Here comes the answer -- Gautam Buddha found out that craving (desire) or expectations are the root cause of sorrow in this world. The lines have just prepared a reader for taking failure head on -- by saying "dont worry about the results" as only ACTIONS can be controlled by one and the RESULTS cannot.
Probably looking at this saying in a wholistic and concrete manner will help understand the true linkage for those fighting between "ethics" & "profession". Yester, I was struck by a question asked by a friend -- Is it ethical to deprive someone off his everyday food, bread and butter in the name of business or profession?! Has professionalism & ethics just given way existence. Where is business ethics in an organisation asking its employees to go for no fault of theirs? With the Jet incident and Indian Airlines to follow has it become a fight between "ethics", "responsibility" and "existence". Is there a way out, if there is one?
I still seek an answer

Why?

If why is the question, then I am sure a lot of us who have a pondering mind would have definately found the most difficult to answer. Isnt it?
Just another troubled soul with a lot of why's to be answered.
Few months ago, I interacted with a project trainee who had come for an internship. The first thing that clicked between us was the question "Why"? Everything that we spent chatting over earthbreaking concepts of the world to economics and management, she always had the "why" question ready. Must admit that some were really tricky to answer.
I had attended a workshop on emotional intelligence & spirituality in Mumbai which kind of brought about the degrees of stability in an individual's mind and the corelation to the kind of 'why' questions that one ponders over.

Will definately want to know the reader experiences on 'why' thoughts?
